Yuzen dyed fabrics are a traditional craft in Kyoto. The technique was devised by painter Yuzensai Miyazaki in the Genroku Era of the Edo Period. To createY yuzen, white cloth is painted and dyed and, traditionally, was finally washed in the Kamo River in Kyoto. Hand painted yuzen can require as many as 26 processes to complete and is the ultimate in kimono luxury. Yuzen is also hand made with stencils and colorful dyes.
