Many different textile techniques are used to create these gorgeous robes.Yuzen dyed fabrics are a traditional craft in Kyoto. The technique was devised by painter Yuzensai Miyazaki in the Genroku Era of the Edo Period. To create yuzen, white cloth is painted and dyed and, traditionally, was finally washed in the Kamo River in Kyoto. Hand painted yuzen can require as many as 26 processes to complete and is the ultimate in kimono luxury. Yuzen is also hand made with stencils and colorful dyes. Shibori kimono are made with different ways of tie dying the fabric.
